Thank you to Reed & Reed, Inc. for sharing these incredible photos of progress being made on the construction of the new Madawaska International Bridge. This new bridge replaces the current structure, which is 100 years old and approaching the end of its useful life.
This is a critical connection between Madawaska, Maine, and Edmundston, New Brunswick.
Reed & Reed has begun setting 7.2 million pounds of structural steel. The first girders, weighing 370,000 lbs, are being set in pairs utilizing eight Crosby IPBCNS 32 metric ton beam clamps. The IPBCNS beam clamps are the preferred lifting clamps for handling and setting steel beams in bridge construction.
When applied to the load, the tongs automatically open and slide under the flange of the beam. Each clamp is individually proof tested to 2 times working load limit and serialized with a recessed base to accept studs welded to the beam surface.
